ANTIDEPRESSANT-LIKE ACTIVITY OF METHANOLIC EXTRACT OF WITHANIA QARAITICA IN MICE

Objective: The goal of the present study was to assess antidepressant-like action Withania qaraitica in two behavioral animal models, forced-swimming test (FST) and tail suspension (TST) mice. Methods: methanolic extract prepared by maceration. antidepressant activity measured using C57BL/6 mice BALB/c Mice were divided into three groups: control (DMSO), standard (citalopram desipramine), (n = 6 per group). Drugs injected (1 ml/100 g) intraperitoneally (i. p.). Data evaluated analysis variance, followed LSD post-hoc tests, where *p<0.001 considered significantly different from vehicle control. data are expressed as mean±SEM. Results: In both FST TST, antidepressant-positive controls citalopram desipramine reduced time immobility compared (p<0.001). at dose 40 mg/kg times with respect well lower doses same (10 20 mg/kg) a similar fashion, decreased duration TST (p<0.005). Conclusion: current results show This observation warrants additional studies identify underlining mechanism which produces effects.
